Microsoft Vista - Optimized for IT Professionals

Microsoft Vista has several enhancements that make it an ideal operating system for IT professionals. Any new operating system Microsoft churns out brings these enhancements that are not found in older versions of its operating system. Although Microsoft Vista is similar to the older versions of the popular operating system, it will interest IT professionals particularly because of newer features such as enhanced capabilities in security, data protection, installment, manageability, and productivity.

Improvements made with Vista will lead to higher efficiency amongst the end users that will experience better networking and acquire more clarity about the relevant aspects of their jobs.

Security with Microsoft Windows: A layered defense protects PC's in a network from spyware and malware. The inbuilt personal firewall does not allow incoming traffic entry until the latest security updates have been installed on to the machine. Group Policy settings allow the IT department to configure the firewall so that client security features are the same for all machines. The Microsoft Vista firewall management system works with IPsec, which is a suite of security protocols for communications through the Internet. Windows Service Hardening regulates the actions of these Windows services and thereby protects the file system and registry. In Windows Vista, User Access Control lets standard users run applications while operating on restricted access and so administrators can manage security and network stability in a better manner.

Data protection with Microsoft Vista: Microsoft Vista protects data at various levels: document, file, directory, and machine. Directories can be encrypted based on user profiles and the encryption keys can be stored on smart cards. The Rights Management system lets system administrators develop document usage policies for individual documents. A Trusted Platform Module (TPM) 1.2 chip holds the key which is used for coding and decoding portions of the hard drive. Machine-level data protection is provided by the BitLocker? Drive Encryption.

Reliable performance with Microsoft Vista: A standout feature of Microsoft Vista is that it can be installed very quickly on machines that are currently using Microsoft XP. The error reporting system is more robust and helps developers to work on common problems. Since failed services restart on their own and data is automatically recovered, users do not have to restart their machines as frequently as with older operating systems. Windows Disk Diagnostics offers excellent preventive maintenance which makes the administrator's job easier. The memory diagnostics feature helps administrators to tackle issues related to memory reliability. The memory diagnostics can be performed without having to download anything. The operation is prompted based on the prognostications by the Windows Error Reporting (WER) or Microsoft Online Crash Analysis (MOCA).

Easy deployment with Microsoft Vista: The Vista OS is run using an imaging process that is based on the file-based disk imaging technology or Windows Imaging. The Vista operating system can be modulated by the IT department so that components like drivers and updates are distributed according to the requirement of the user.

Network management with Microsoft Vista: Many policies and groups have been developed for the new operating system helping to make it better than before. For example, Windows Vista OS promises to reduce the Total Cost of Ownership (TCO) for companies that deploy thousands of desktops in a network, Windows Resource Protection (WRP) enables IT professionals to prevent system files and registry keys from getting corrupted, a Local Group Policy allows administrators to configure a single machine to be used by more than one user and a policy-based QoS enables smooth traffic flow without the need to modify applications.
